Our founder Val Kear

Spirit of the Herd is a not-for-profit horse and pony sanctuary based near The Ridgeway holiday park in Alvanley/Frodsham.

We were founded by Val in 1993 when she took on her first rescue Shetland pony named Humbug (who's still going strong out there!). Since then we've expanded to a 24-strong herd, ranging from the ages of five all the way to 28, with all different breeds from miniature Shetlands to Irish Sports Horses as well as our beloved coloured cobs.

The Old Police station, Frodsham

Frodsham Town Council have this week objected to a planning application seeking to transform the town's former police station into a 'private boutique studio facility'.

The building, which is located on Ship Street, has been empty for several years, and was sold in 2019. The application had suggested the creation of a new facility offering movement therapy, pilates, fitness and dance classes.

In this, the last week of ReMix Creatives' 'Material Matters' exhibition at the Castle Park Arts Centre, I spoke to artist Deb Kemp, about creating artwork during lockdown.

Established over 15 years ago, ReMix Creatives is a small private group of mixed-media artists, who exhibit annually at Castle Park. Deb, who is a painter, print-maker and art teacher, has been a member for seven years.

A local amateur watercolourist has received the great compliment of having his work featured in the Society of All Artists' Paint magazine.

John Graven, a retired market analyst from Runcorn, has spent the last few years producing beautiful watercolour paintings of Frodsham, Kingsley and Norley's pubs and restaurants, including The Bear's Paw (pictured above), The Bull's Head (pictured below) and The Cholmondeley Arms.

The five friends and colleagues, who work across a variety of media, from textiles to ceramics to charcoal, are united by their love of mountaineering, an activity which inspires many of their pieces.

Traffic builds up around the Fluin Lane junction in Frodsham

Local families are being encouraged by Cheshire West and Chester Council to help create a 'car-free zone' around schools.

The Council is urging parents and children to walk, cycle or 'scoot' to school where possible, as it aims not only to promote an active lifestyle amongst young people, but also to reduce air pollution and congestion.
