Lockdown might finally be lifting, but Frodsham and District Open Hands support group is still here for any local residents who might be in need of a little extra help.

Set up during the first national lockdown by Frodsham Churches Together, Frodsham Town Council and a team of local volunteers, Frodsham Open Hands has been running errands for isolating or vulnerable residents for the past year.

Helsby Parish Council is encouraging the village's residents and community organisations to share pictures of their lockdown experiences for the new 'Helsby, the Art of Here' initiative.

Having received funding for an arts project in the village, the Parish Council acquired a display screen, through which they planned to reflect the way in which the community has reacted to and coped with the coronavirus pandemic.

Frodsham Town Council Amenities Committee has agreed to apply for a grant from the government's post-Covid Welcome Back Fund, which will be used for the planting of trees across the town.

Frodsham Tree Warden, Tom Blundell, had requested the replacement of seven trees in Churchfields, three in Hob Hey Wood and 14 in Ship Street orchards, at a cost of £12 per plant and £3 per stake.

Spirit of the Herd Pony Sanctuary in Helsby

Spirit of the Herd horse and pony sanctuary in Alvanley has been awarded a grant by a Cheshire-based wealth management company, Equilibrium, as part of its ongoing community support scheme.

Spirit of the Herd is a not-for-profit sanctuary which helps to rescue and rehabilitate horses and ponies. The animals are then used to help children, young people and adults with learning needs, a lack of confidence or those suffering from stress or anxiety.

89 Main Street

Frodsham Town Council have referred an application to change the thatched roof of 89, Main Street from straw to water reed to Cheshire West and Chester Council Planning department.

By using water reed, the applicant suggests that the Grade II listed building, which dates from around 1640, will be more of a 'visual match' with its neighbours at 85 and 87, which are already thatched in this way.

The Knoll Surgery is urging residents who have not received their second coronavirus vaccine dose to come to arrange an appointment.

The Surgery has already contacted all patients who received their first AstraZeneca dose on 18, 22 and 29 January and 2, 6, 10 and 12 February, but if you have not yet booked your appointment, please do so by calling the surgery on 01928 733249.

Kingsley St Johns CE Aided Primary School are now taking donations for their Covid Time Capsule project in coordination with the Parish Council and the local community.

Containing all the trappings of the coronavirus era - from face masks to vaccine certificates to lockdown artwork - the capsule will give future generations a feel for what life was like during this 'unprecedented' year.
