Conservative candidate, Chris Basey, has been elected as Frodsham ward councillor on Cheshire West and Chester Council.

Chris secured 1,481 votes in the election, receiving just under 200 votes more than closest opponent Mike Garvey, representing Labour, who had 1,296.

Meanwhile, 384 votes were cast for Liberal Democrat candidate, Patrick Eakin, and 176 for Green Party candidate, Sian Day.

After the result was announced just before 2pm this afternoon (Friday 8 April), Chris told Frodsham Nub News: "I feel a bit overwhelmed!

"We were here until 3am last night at the verification of the ballot boxes, and it looked like it was going to be really, really close. However, it didn't turn out to be quite as close as we thought.

"I'm now feeling a little scared but very excited: I wanted to get stuck into Frodsham and now's my chance, so that's fantastic.

"Thank you to everyone in Frodsham for coming to vote. We had a 45 per cent turnout, which is amazing for local elections, and I really think it shows how much people in Frodsham care about their town.

"That's something I can use to work with as a brand-new councillor!

"Now I'm going to go home and celebrate with a beer and some pizza!"

Labour candidate, Mike Garvey, congratulated Chris on his election and also thanked the people of Frodsham for coming out to vote.

Chris will now join Cllr Lynn Riley as a representative for Frodsham on Cheshire West and Chester Council.

Cllr Riley said: "I'm thrilled to have Chris as a partner for progress.

"We'll be spending out time holding the Labour Council to every pledge and promise made in this campaign, as Frodsham has been ignored for too long."

3,360 votes were cast in this election, equating to a turnout of 44.9 per cent of the Frodsham electorate.

Meanwhile, in Neston, 36 per cent of the voting-age population went to the polls, to elect Labour candidate Keith Millar.
