A resident led petition opposing the proposed closure of Frodsham Leisure Centre has reached 600 signatures.

The petition, which was begun by Adrian Reese, is in reaction to a 'Shaping the Future' public consultation launched by local provider, Brio Leisure, and Cheshire West and Chester Council.

In it, they write that Frodsham Leisure Centre is 'not fit for purpose', adding, "plans to provide a sustainable health, leisure, wellbeing and library service to the Frodsham/Helsby area would be developed maximising the use of community facilities and external funding opportunities."

The petition argues that the Leisure Centre buildings are adequate, and that, instead of being closed down, they should be the focus of Council investment.

In a note of thanks to the petition's signatories, Mr Reese said: "Despite the conditions that we are living through, and the depressive nature of the threat to a much-loved and well-used facility, let's try to be positive and keep faith in one another that we can see this threat off!"
