We are delighted to announce that Home Instead Senior Care Frodsham, Runcorn & Widnes has become an official sponsor of Frodsham Nub News, enabling us to continue providing local news, photos and features about this wonderful town.

Established in Frodsham over 10 years ago, Home Instead is a world-leading provider of specialised home care for the elderly.

Home Instead CAREGivers know that home is where their clients feel happiest, and want to help them continue living at home, comfortably and independently.

They focus on a person-centred, relationship-led approach, spending at least an hour with every client, as they place companionship at the heart of their work.

This dedication was recognised at Home Instead's last CQC inspection, where they became the only care provider in our area to be rated 'Outstanding'.

Brian Moynihan, who runs Frodsham's Home Instead branch with his wife, Alison, explains: "It is care that passes the 'mum test': it is what I would want for my mum.

"We will help people get to the bank, we will help people go shopping, we will shop for them, we will get them to their vaccination appointments."

Karl Hancock, Nub News founder and chief executive officer, said: "To have such a highly respected company as our first Frodsham sponsor is really exciting.

"Home Instead's core value of working from the heart of their community to provide outstanding care for residents perfectly complements what we are doing at Nub News."

A devoted team of CAREGivers

While matching a local senior with the right CAREGiver, the Home Instead team carry out a full consultation with the client and their family.

"That consultation is a very engaged discovery process about the person's practical needs but also about their life," Brian adds. "If we have someone who's a really passionate gardener we will match them with a CAREGiver who has an interest in gardening."

Home Instead already employs people of all ages and walks of life, and is looking to expand their team.

A background in elderly care is not required to work for Home Instead; in fact, 80 per cent of new recruits have no professional experience, although they may have looked after a family member or friend in the past.

With this in mind, the key question for prospective CAREGivers is: "Do you have a big heart? Will you enjoy the time you spend with these people?

"The practical side is important but the care that we provide is far greater than the sum of the tasks," Brian adds. "You're helping someone get to the shower or get dressed but you're also giving them the warmth of human companionship."

So, if you are interested in making a difference to older people's quality of life by becoming a CAREGiver, Home Instead would like to hear from you!

Engaging with the community

Like Frodsham Nub News, Home Instead is a community-based business, which aims to bring local residents together through intergenerational projects organised by Community Relations Coordinator, Jane Pinnington.

Jane began working for Home Instead four years ago, in a departure from a career in cosmetics and corporate event management.

"It's the best job I've ever done," she says. "Every day is different: the clients make you laugh and they have fantastic stories to tell."

For Jane, it is very important that Home Instead seniors continue to feel part of life in our town.

"Frodsham is a wonderful place," she says, "the businesses are brilliant, the people are lovely and we're all on a mission to support our fabulous community."

It is this neighbourly spirit that has made her projects such a success. In the first coronavirus lockdown last year, Jane launched 'Letter to a Senior', which saw local primary school children writing cards to older residents who were feeling isolated.

"They were just amazing to read," she said. "The campaign linked generations together, which is very important to us."

This was followed by 'Living Histories', through which older residents shared their stories from wartime Helsby and Manley with Helsby High School students.

Coming next is the 'Recipe Swap' project, where Mersey Weaver Scouts will share recipes that mean something to them, whether it is Granny's apple pie or Grandad's Lancashire hotpot.

After completing a course with the Alzheimer's Society, Jane has also started running 'Singing for the Brain' sessions for Home Instead clients who are living with dementia.

"It's fantastic to watch because they may struggle with speech but they all remember how to sing," Jane explains. "Music stimulates the brain and gets a conversation going with them.

"They're singing, moving their hands about, swaying, waving and it's so nice to see. I'm very excited about it."

Frodsham Nub News is excited to share further news of Home Instead's valuable community initiatives with you in the future!
