Cheshire West and Chester Council are seeking residents views on plans for new dedicated cycling infrastructure on the A56 Chester Road between Frodsham and Helsby.

The proposed foot and cycleway development will start to the west of Godscroft Lane and continue up to the railway bridge.

The stretch between Godscroft Lane to the junction with Matty's Lane will see an improved cycle path with a physical kerbside barrier to protect bike users from adjacent traffic.

From Matty's Lane, the existing footway is to be maintained and widened, while further down, a new toucan crossing will ease pedestrian access to Helsby High School.

Further details of the proposals can be found here.

The Council will be contacting residents and businesses on the route directly to ask for their feedback, as well as talking with local groups and other stakeholders.

Motorists using the route will also be encouraged to participate. There is also an online questionnaire.

This asks if the proposed routes will be welcomed and encourages comments on the plans.

The proposed alterations to the A56 corridor come after the Council was awarded £611,800 from the government's Emergency Active Travel Fund, which seeks to provide an attractive alternative to car travel for short journeys, while also improving public health.
