What a lovely photograph!

This image of a female hen harrier was captured on Frodsham Marsh this week by local photographer, Duncan Cowley.

The picture shows the bird - often named 'ringtail' because of her distinctive barred tail - gliding low to the ground in search of her dinner!

Duncan tells me that a female hen harrier has been visiting the Marsh for the past three years, staying for a few weeks before she moves on. Seeing that she decides to roost in the same place each time, it is likely that it is the same bird.

"With only 1000 pairs in Britain it's amazing to see that we have one here in Frodsham," Duncan said.
