Frodsham Town Council Amenities Committee is to invest funds provided through the Community Infrastructure Levy in buying new trees for the Ship Street area.

In April, local tree warden Tom Blundell requested funding to replace seven trees in Churchfields, three in Hob Hey Wood and 14 on Ship Street orchards.

Now, just over £300 will be spent on a total of 21 saplings, some of which will replace damaged or vandalised trees on the corner of Ship Street near Frodsham Fire Station.

Cllr Caroline Ashton expressed concerns about planting the new trees in this location, saying: "I don't think we should plant the trees knowing that they're just going to get vandalised."

"There are certain areas where we know that we'll get vandalism. There are lots more trees down by the Weaver and in Hob Hey Wood, and I just think the money is better spent away from areas that are vulnerable. I don't like seeing trees getting destroyed."

Cllr Bernie Wade replied: "So should Waterside not have any trees because they might get vandalised?"

"Let's try one more time."
