We're a little slow to discover award-winning and locally-produced film, [I]Out of Time, but if you're a latecomer like us and looking for a weekend watch, we would highly recommend it![.I]
Written and produced by Liverpool actress, Kerry Williams, Out of Time begins with ex-fighting champion, Danny (Jamie Cousins) leaving prison after an eight-year sentence.
He is eagerly awaited by his wife, Sam (Williams), and son Connor (Frankie Friend), but the happy moment is not exactly as it seems.
Connor and Sam are harbouring a secret, a secret that will change their lives forever.
After years of struggling with a body that just doesn't fit, Connor is about to begin transitioning to life as a girl.
How can they reason with the blinkered hyper-masculinity of Danny, who will surely never accept the news?
Out of Time is a powerful story love and acceptance, heightened by its emotive soundtrack and an impressive performance from Friend, who was only 10 when filming began.
The film's poignancy is offset with well-placed moments of comedy, expertly delivered by the hapless milkman (James Watts) and Nancy the cold-hearted lollipop lady (Lindzi Germain).
Watching Out of Time is made all the more enjoyable by its use of our local area. A dramatic scene on the top of Frodsham Hill is joined by appearances from Manley Village School and the roads around Delamere Forest.
Having won an award at the LGBTQ Unbordered Film Festival, Out of Time has garnered considerable worldwide attention, including a spot at Sydney Women's International Film Festival.
How strange to think that our small town has been featured on screens ranging across the world!
Out of Time, rated '15', was directed by Leon Lopez and is available to watch on Amazon Prime Video.[.I]
