Weaver Vale MP Mike Amesbury was impressed with how a Frodsham school is educating pupils about inclusivity for LGBT+ people.

Mike visited Frodsham Manor House Primary School at the end of Rainbow Flag Week where he met children from Year 6.

This was a whole school project as part of relationships education and application for the Rainbow Flag Award, which is a year-long journey.

Mike said: "I was certainly impressed with the speeches and questions asked by the children, many of them considerably better than the ones I hear in parliament!

"The key message that came out of it was, like the rainbow, society is made up of many colours and people from diverse backgrounds. We are all born equal and everyone of us is a wonderful human being."

During the week, the children had taken part in a number of lessons and assemblies to help them understand more about the LGBT+ community. There were also discussions around how to recognise and challenge discrimination and the right to be who you want to be.

Frodsham Manor House is also a 'No Outsiders School' so the Equality Act is embedded in the school ethos with the focus that no one is the same but everyone is equal.

Over the past year pupils have been learning British Sign Language as part of looking at disability.

They have also been educated about asylum seekers and collected for local families as part of the annual Harvest Festival.

Assistant headteacher Naomi Anstice said: "Mike's visit provided the link to our wider local and national community and how the lessons we had this week to raise awareness of LGBT+, are recognised by law as protected characteristics.

"The pupils valued the opportunity to have their voices heard as both current and future change makers."
