This has been a somewhat static week for coronavirus infections in Frodsham and Helsby, which still sit just below the UK average.

In the seven days leading up to January 21, there were 32 new cases recorded in Frodsham, the same number as the week before.

The town's rolling infection rate is currently around 349 per 100,000 people.

In the area encompassing Helsby, Alvanley, Kingsley and Manley, 30 new cases made for a rate of 323 per 100,000, which was an 11 per cent rise on the previous week.

While in the past week we have seen little change in the number of local Covid cases, in general, infection rates are declining in Cheshire West.

In the week ending January 21, the number of cases recorded in the borough fell by 20 per cent to 1,245. This resulted in a rate of 363 per 100,000 residents.

Two weeks before, the rate had peaked at 554 per 100,000.

Cheshire West's rolling rate is also below the UK average of 375 per 100,000.

As of yesterday, there were 1,952 active coronavirus cases – people currently infected with the disease - in the borough according to a Covid Symptom Study estimation.

Meanwhile, on January 19, there were thought to be 2,329.

Having gathered data from its millions of contributors, the Covid Symptom Study website helps to visualise the evolution of the second wave of Covid-19 through interactive maps and graphics.

By the end of last week, Cheshire West and Chester Council Leader, Louise Gittins, 'guesstimated' that there 31,000 vaccinations had been administered to residents.

If this is correct, it means that, on Friday 22 January, 9 per cent of the borough had been inoculated against the virus.

Figures released yesterday confirm that 893,000 people across the North West have now had at least their first dose of the vaccine.
