Working to tidy Frodsham's Caves, Marsh and Saltworks: a 'Thank you' to the town's litter pickers!

Frodsham Nub News would like to join local residents in celebrating the kind individuals who have been giving up their time to pick up rubbish from various locations around the town.

Over the weekend, Jane Williams, Vivien Shaw, Fiona Barry, Paul Honeyfield set about tidying Frodsham Caves.

They were assisted by two veterans of the Frodsham litter picking scene, the Phantom Litter Pickers of Old Frodsham Town, who came armed with their own two metre pick stick!

In order to maintain social distancing and stick to lockdown restrictions, each of this community-minded group visited the Caves at different times to clear the litter and leave it at an agreed location for Cheshire West and Chester Council to collect.

Meanwhile, volunteers including Andrea Ellison and Sandy Semple were working their way from the Marshes towards Saltworks in Waterside ward, making sure to stick to groups of two in line with lockdown rules.

Since news of the litter pick emerged on social media, it has received over 1,000 'Likes' and 'Thank yous', as the local community share their appreciation for these acts of kindness.

Having caught the litter-picking bug, the Waterside team will be back collecting rubbish soon, and if anyone would like to join them they are welcome to get in touch over Facebook to arrange a Covid-secure plan.

Thank you to everyone involved in this weekend's clean-up operation, and to all those not named in this article who pick up litter on a regular basis to keep Frodsham looking neat and tidy!

How can I get involved?

If you are keen to play your part in Frodsham's local litter-picking operations, you can contact CWAC here to request the collection of any resulting bags of rubbish from an agreed location.

The Council also offer community clean-up toolkits including litter pickers, gloves, bags and cleansing wipes and full instructions for the collection of filled bags to help individuals and groups who want to do their bit and get involved.

A jet washing machine is also available to those who need it.

To boost recycling, if possible groups are asked to sort rubbish into different bags depending on whether it is plastic or general waste.
