Local tattoo artist, BillieJo English, has this week shaved her head to raise money for the Pink Ribbon Foundation, following her mother's recent breast cancer diagnosis.

BillieJo's campaign has already raised over £4,000 for the Foundation, which aims to fund projects by UK charities assisting people suffering from breast cancer.

She will donate her 26-inch locks to the Little Princess Trust, who make real hair wigs for children who have lost their hair due to cancer or other treatments.

When her mum received her cancer diagnosis, BillieJo wanted to find a way of showing her support and love.

Due to the nature of her treatment and the current coronavirus restrictions, BillieJo's mum will have to shield for six months, meaning that she may not be able to see her family at Christmas.

BillieJo was therefore keen to do something that would help raise her spirits during this lonely time. She decided to show her that, despite the isolating nature of her condition, she is not alone.

As her family helped her shave her head in an Instagram live stream on Monday night, BillieJo said: "In reality I don't think I could have chosen a better time [to shave my head]: it's winter, it's lockdown, no one's going to see it!"

"If anyone wants to send me a hat, feel free! It's going to be a cold winter!"

You can still donate to BillieJo's fundraising appeal until December 1st. To do so, click here.

"If everyone gives as little as £1, if everyone shares and likes [this page], it would just mean so much to us right now," BillieJo said.
