Remembrance Day commemorations will be looking very different this year

With the new national lockdown now in force, the small church service which had been planned by St Laurence's to mark Remembrance Sunday has now been cancelled.

However, in commemoration of those who were lost during First and Second World War, as well as more recent conflicts, the Rev Elaine and the Rev Andrew Amison will be pre-recording an Act of Remembrance for 11am on Armistice Day (Wednesday 11th November).

This will involve input from other church ministers, the Town Council, Frodsham schools and members of the community.

During the service, which will be available to watch on the Church website, Facebook and YouTube, the customary two minutes silence will be observed.

Any organisation wishing to lay a wreath at the War memorial in St Laurence churchyard is invited to do so after 12pm on November 8th, or any time on November 11th. Please comply with current social distancing rules.

Residents are encouraged to join in the remembrance of those who died in war from their own homes at 11am on Sunday 8th and Wednesday 11th.

This message has been echoed across Cheshire West, with Council leader, Louise Gittins, issuing the following message: "Given these new restrictions it is even more important that the priority this year is about keeping people safe.

"I would like to encourage everyone to come out onto their doorsteps on Sunday 8th November at 11am to mark the national two minutes silence and also place a poppy in a front window."

Kingsley St John's Church will be open for private prayer from 10am until 2pm on Remembrance Sunday, with a Poppy Appeal collection box in the porch for anyone wishing to donate.

There will also be a virtual service available on the Church website, beginning at 10:45am on Sunday, and encompassing the parishes of Norley, Crowton, Alvanley and Manley as well.
