A draw and a win for Helsby FC, undefeated since the start of the season!

Helsby FC Reserves played away at Shaftesbury Youth FC on Wednesday night - arriving at Prenton Park 10 minutes late, I soon realised the game was somewhat subdued .

There was plenty of effort by both teams but very few goal scoring opportunities or excitement: I don't think the Helsby keeper made a save in that first half.

The second half started brighter and within 5 minutes Helsby were awarded a "soft" penalty for a pull in the box. Keenan stepped up and scored from the spot.

Helsby looked far more energetic and creative now and make a few more half chances. The Green Army seemed in total control of the game even though it was still just 1-0.

Then, with just 10 minutes to go, the game jumped into life.

A long range shot and a fumble by the Shaftesbury keeper saw the Helsby forward slot the ball home, but off side was given in what seemed to me to be a very harsh decision.

Then a mix-up at the back saw the Shaftesbury player in on goal. Keenan made a challenge and the player fell to the ground. A penalty was awarded and Keenan sent off with all the Helsby players claiming it was yards outside the box.

The penalty was converted and Shaftesbury decided to try and win the game.

Helsby were hanging on by a thread - there was tension all over the pitch but the Helsby keeper made two great saves to secure a point for Helsby Reserves.

Meanwhile, Helsby FC First Team were away against Aintree Villa FC Reserves, winning by four goals to nil.

That's five games and no defeats for both the First Team and the Reserves after the restart of the season - Helsby are marching on together!
