Three fire engines attended the incident last night

Three fire engines were called out to a basement fire on Hill Road North, Helsby, at 8:45pm last night (Sunday 18th October).

The fire, which involved an electrical cupboard inside the basement of the large detached property, required the attention of crews from Powey Lane, Runcorn and Ellesmere Port.

Cheshire West leaders were given very little notice of the new restrictions

The most dramatic coronavirus development since the early summer easing of lockdown came to Cheshire this week, with both councils being placed in tier two restrictions by the government.

Tier two – also known as a 'high alert level' – means residents can no longer mix with other households in any indoor setting. Additionally, the rule of six applies for outdoor meet-ups.

The Frodsham Players have announced that they will be uploading a series of monologues, recitations and readings to their YouTube channel, to inject some cheer into these difficult times.

The Players are currently unable to perform inside due to coronavirus restrictions, and, with winter looming, outdoor performances are quickly becoming inviable.

There's no indication at present that Cheshire West will be put into tier 3

With the government's move to a new three-tiered alert level system this week, political tension across the north has escalated as more boroughs move up the restrictions ladder.

At first, the Liverpool City Region was the only area placed as a tier 3 — also known as 'very high alert level' — meaning household mixing is banned indoors and outside in hospitality venues, pubs which do not serve food are under forced closure, and guidance is in place advising against travel to and from the region.
