Helsby FC Reserves played Shaftesbury Reserves in their second game of the season on Saturday, drawing 2-2.

Helsby started nervously, and Shaftesbury scored deservedly after 25 minutes. This was followed by three great chances for Helsby, but no goals. At half time the score was 1-0 and Helsby decided to bring on Adam Harding.

This served to transform the game, with the team picking up their pace and delivering a far more threatening performance, putting Shaftesbury on the back foot.

Harding then scored two goals within minutes of each other. With this newfound confidence, Helsby continued to make more chances. However, with 10 minutes to go, Shaftesbury scored once again.

Helsby rolled up their sleeves and gathered forces. With 30 seconds to go a free kick resulted in a headed goal by Si Whelan. While he was on side, the other two players were off side, and the goal was disallowed.

A quick free kick by the Shaftesbury keeper in his own six yard box struck the back of a player and the ball fell to Costa, who reacted quickly and walked it into the empty net. For a moment, the Green Army went wild, but then the goal was disallowed once again.

A nail-biting finale to a great second half by Helsby FC Reserves!

Helsby First Team were also playing on Saturday against Ellesmere Port Town Reserves, who they beat 0-8.
