Frodsham CC's 1st XI welcomed Saughall CC for Saturday's game on a lovely mid-September afternoon, with Saughall's captain unsurprisingly elected to bat first.

Jack McGrogan and Matt Deakin opened the bowling for FCC, backed up by first change seamer, Tom Halliwell.

Saughall made a steady start as the opening partnership of 78 was broken by the change of bowling to Jamie London, who had Martin Huxley miscuing a delivery direct to the safe hands of Matt Deakin. Jamie quickly followed that up by bowling Saughall's no 3, Chris Andrews.

A second change led to the wicket of the other opening batsman, James Huxley, as Jaymie Smith had him sky-ing an off-spinning delivery to captain Tom Wilkinson.

This brought Saughall's big hitting Chan Singh to the crease, who smashed 2 huge sixes out of the ground on his way to 50 before being ran out by Mikey Connolly from a superb throw deep on the boundary. All of the carnage led to Saughall declaring on 192 for 4 off 38 overs.

Frodsham started their run chase well and had reached 25 before opener Pete O'Grady played on for 15, bringing wicketkeeper-batsman Rob Kent to the crease.

He and opener, Jaymie Smith, continued to bat sensibly and put on 37 together when Kent was caught going for one shot too many for his 15.

Out came Tom Halliwell who rotated the strike well with Smith, and was roughly keeping up with the run rate when the halfway stage came. This prompted Saughall captain, Tony Roberts, to bring himself on.

His wily left arm medium pace started to slow the scoring down and ultimately led to the dismissal of Smith for 44 who was stumped behind looking to advance down the wicket.

Three quick wickets followed until captain, Tom Wilkinson joined Tom Halliwell at the crease. This partnership stabilised the FCC innings and the pair managed to put on an unbeaten partnership of 54, leading the team to 155 for 6 after the 42 overs and a thoroughly entertaining draw. Halliwell and Wilkinson ended on 36* and 29* respectively.
