Helsby Tennis Club has been named Club of the Year in the Cheshire Lawn Tennis Association 2020/21 Awards.
Presenting the award, LTA Councillor for Cheshire, Liz Sweeting said: "Helsby has been mentioned with regard to its work in the community via Castle Park, and the club has excelled in many areas, despite the enormous challenges of Covid.
"They have successfully completed a move to a fully floodlit, multi-sport site, and through trial membership, taster sessions and free meet-and-greets, they have increased their membership by 40 per cent.
"Accessible community tennis was offered for free at Castle Park and court fees were waived during lockdown for as many people as possible to access the facility, thereby not gaining any money, but huge public respect for the club.
"900 hours of court bookings was achieved. The flexibility of their coaching programmes and membership packages, including reductions for those experiencing financial hardship, have helped to expand participation.
"The club's fundraising, dedicated volunteers, and a collaborative and community-focused approach sets it apart."
The award, which was won last year by Hoole Tennis Club, will be received by Helsby Tennis Club at an LTA presentation evening in November.
