It's National Tree Week!

National Tree Week (28 November to 6 December 2020) is the UK's largest tree celebration, marking the start of the winter tree planting season. This year Frodsham Root Network wants to hear about your tree planting plans!

National Tree Week was initiated by The Tree Council in March 1975 to support national replanting of trees after the outbreak of Dutch elm disease.

KiddiCove Nursery appealed to the local community for advent calendar donations

At the end of October, Frodsham's KiddiCove nursery began appealing to local people and businesses for advent calendar donations, which were to be donated to Chester-based charity, Save the Family.

Following a flood of kind donations from members of the community and businesses, including a huge batch of advent calendars from Woodhouse Plumbing, KiddiCove have easily surpassed their initial target.

Helsby's Spirit of the Herd Pony Sanctuary is one of eight community initiatives to benefit from a Community Fund established by Cheshire West and Chester Council company, Vivo Care Choices.

In this, the final round of the Community Fund grants, £11,000 was distributed to the different projects, which all deliver valuable services to people needing extra support in our borough.

Cheshire West: Why tier 2?

Got déjà vu? Cheshire will be back in tier 2 restrictions once again following the end of the national coronavirus lockdown on December 2.

Both Cheshire West and Cheshire East were also in tier 2 pre-lockdown, so there is a temptation to assume that we can return to the routines which we held at the end of October.

Cllr Gittins and Mike Amesbury MP have reacted to today's announcement

Cheshire West's leaders have reacted to today's government announcement, through which we learnt that the whole of our county will be placed in tier 2 when lockdown lifts.

Via Twitter, Frodsham's MP, Mike Amesbury, said: "I am pleased that through everybody's efforts infections are going down but, it is still tough for people, our public services and businesses. Keep looking out for each other."

Frodsham ward councillor, Lynn Riley, has recently been campaigning for better enforcement of fly-tipping laws on Frodsham Marshes.

At this week's Frodsham Town Council meeting, Cllr Riley said that she writes regularly to Cheshire West Council, Cheshire's Police and Crime Commissioner, David Keane, DEFRA and the Environment Agency, appealing for support in combating the issue.
