Labour candidate, Lucy Sumner, has won the Frodsham Town Council Waterside ward election.

Lucy secured 340 votes, while Conservative candidate Chris Basey had 217 and Independent candidate Patrick Eakin had 125.

We're back with our Friday Frodsham Heroes feature, and this week we are celebrating the inspiring work of local resident, Pauline Lowrie.

Horn's Mill Primary School in Helsby is asking parents and local residents to say 'No!' to the mow this May, to offer a helping hand to our bees, butterflies and other wildlife.

This comes as part of a campaign by conservation charity, Plantlife, which is encouraging individuals and councils to leave wildflowers to grow on lawns and verges to support their local bee life.

There are a series of roadworks scheduled to take place in Frodsham over the coming weeks, including the following:

- On Sunday 9 May, there will be temporary traffic lights installed on Main Street around the junctions with Fountain Lane and Marsh Lane, to allow for Openreach to carry out work in the area.

Over the last 15 months, while rehearsals have been virtual and performances off the cards, Frodsham Sings Community Choir have been busy raising money for local charities.

Last year, the choir diverted their subscription fees to West Cheshire Foodbank, donating over £3,000.

The Daniel Adamson, or 'Danny' steamship will celebrate its return to the waterways by hosting a special Abandon Normal Devices Festival event this summer.

From Friday 9 until Sunday 11 July, The Danny will be hosting 'By the Sound of Things', an immersive, audiovisual experience created by Kate Davies.

Helsby Parish Council has agreed to purchase a Tommy figure in celebration of VE Day on 8 May 2021.

The figure, which will be on display at St Paul's Church war memorial, will stand alongside the wicker soldier that helped mark 2020's socially-distanced VE and Remembrance Days.

Today, Thursday 6 May, is the big day. English local elections that had been postponed last year due to Covid-19 are now taking place, with votes for 143 councils and 39 Police and Crime Commissioners.

In Frodsham, residents are voting for a new Police and Crime Commissioner and town councillor for Waterside ward.
