Sainsbury's has now joined Morrisons in clamping down on shoppers who refuse to wear a face mask when required to do so.
The supermarket chain also announced that it would be stationing trained security guards at store entrances to ensure that - unless exempt - people are both wearing a mask and shopping alone.
Shoppers do not need to wear a face mask inside supermarkets if:
- They are children under the age of 11
- They physically cannot put a mask on or wear one- They would experience "severe distress" from putting on and wearing a mask
- They are accompanying someone who relies on lip reading- Their using a mask would risk harm or injury to others.
Fellow supermarket chain, Morrisons, also announced yesterday (Monday) that they would be enforcing the wearing of masks from now on.
"Those who are offered a face covering and decline to wear one won't be allowed to shop at Morrisons unless they are medically exempt," said Morrisons chief executive, David Potts.
"Our store colleagues are working hard to feed you and your family, please be kind," he added, as he urged shoppers to be respectful of store staff.
