What a night for Helsby FC First Team away at Mersey Harps FC on Saturday (10 April)!

The game started in a niggly fashion with Helsby on top. But the lads simply didn't have that cutting edge or match sharpness in front of goal just yet.

Many half chances came and went but on 35 minutes Helsby's Connor laid the ball to Nathan on the edge of the box, who slotted it into the net - a great goal.

Nathan was proving a real thorn in the Harps' side but the score at half time remained 1-0.

Helsby came out in the second half pressing for a second goal, which came soon after through a long ball.

It almost seemed that this was it for the night, but a corner was poked home by Harps and it was game on again.

The tension was now growing and then the move of the season from Helsby led to perhaps the goal of the decade.

A string of passes down the left and a cross to the far post to where Lee was poised and already in a perfect position for a volley.

He hit it, cutting the ball across the keeper into the far top corner.

I couldn't help myself, we were jumping all over the place.

The goal was a like a broken string to the Harps heart and it was soon 4-1 with Helsby cruising.

Not to 'harp on' too much but the score could have been a lot more. However, that third goal was something to cherish - a goal of beauty which made me smile.

It was great seeing live football again - the Green Army go marching on!
