On Sunday evening (11 April), a local dog-walker was hit in the back of the head by a stone after being confronted by a gang of youths in Helsby Quarry.

At about 6pm, the man says that he was walking through the quarry when, towards the gate at the bottom end, a group of six or seven teenagers began asking him questions about the age, breed and sex of his dogs.

Receiving no response from the man, the youths became abusive and threatening.

The man says that as he walked on he felt a stone hit the back of his head. He returned home safely and Cheshire Police were notified of what had happened.

Officers have issued a crime reference number for the incident.
