After last year's Covid-induced hiatus, Frodsham Festival of Walks is back and hoping to inspire its walkers with a special online event.
Unlock your creativity and rediscover where you live!
Frodsham's 'virtual' Festival of Walks will run throughout May and aims to help people rediscover where they live and encourage their creativity.
As we are still unable to walk together in large groups for the moment, the Festival of Walks has devised a programme of local self-led walks for you to enjoy under the general theme – Rediscover where you Live.
It offers residents and visitors to Frodsham a chance to take another look at familiar sights and landmarks, but with fresh eyes to recognise and absorb the gradual changes that have taken place over the years.
Ahead of the Festival, Chester Cathedral's Poet in Residence, Julia McGuinness will start the ball rolling on Friday 23 April at 7:30pm in a free online event designed to help you discover the writer or poet in you before you start any of the eight local walks on offer.
It will be a chance to rethink the way you prepare for a walk and show you ways to look again at what seems to be familiar. Open your mind to new ways of expressing how you feel about what you are seeing, feeling, touching, and thinking about your walk.
Julia will offer you a 'toolkit' of skills to bring your writing to life and help you discover the poet/writer that lives inside us all. Get your children and grandchildren involved too with hints, tips, and new tricks to get them started.
Make the most of this exciting opportunity and sign up for the workshop today!
Selections of your finished poems and prose will be posted on the Festival of Walks website and social media platforms.
Working in conjunction with the Weaver Words Festival, some of your work might also appear on their 'pop-up' poetry wall at Frodsham Community Centre or be heard at an Open Mic Night in early September when their festival opens.
We at Frodsham Festival of Walks are also very keen to see photos, sketches, paintings, films, videos or any other artworks that have been inspired by your walks. We'll share these pieces on our website and social media platforms once the Festival has opened.
We look forward to welcoming you to the Frodsham Festival of Walks' first ever Poetry and Writers' Workshop on Friday 23 April at 7:30pm with Chester Cathedral's poet in residence Julia McGuinness.
