All parkruns across the country will return on June 5, with junior events, including the Castle Park race, restarting on April 11.

From this date, children aged between four and 10 only will be invited back to complete the 2k course around the Castle Park grounds.

This restriction has been introduced to limit the number of children taking part at any one time.

Once the 5k event returns to locations such as Delamere Forest on June 5, 11-14 year olds will be welcomed back to junior parkrun.

Organisers announced the resumption of the popular 5km races in a blog post on their website.

Organised outdoor sports are allowed from March 29 under government guidance unveiled in the roadmap last week.

Parkrun says it is returning when all UK events are able to, to avoid "parkrun tourism" which could see certain events overwhelmed with runners if only a few parkruns resumed at first.

Delaying the return until the summer also allows the infection rate to drop even further and will boost the chances of holding parkrun's largest events, which attract more than 1,000 people weekly.
