What at an incredible day and performance by Helsby FC at the Colosseum of Confrontation.

The team entertained second-placed and title-chasing Rainford FC - this was going to be a tough and such a defining game to see who won the title.

Third-placed Helsby started well and were definitely on their "A" game - lovely fluent football with Lee Turkington, Nathan, Jamie Hayes and Adson running the defence ragged.

Then on 15 minutes Jamie Hayes cut in and shot. A great save but a mix up by the keeper with Nathan involved made the first goal of the match - Helsby were winning 1-0.

Helsby were on fire but squandered chance after chance with the cross bar rattling three times in five minutes.

Then Lee Turkington was through and felled in the box and Adson scored the penalty beautifully. Helsby were controlling the game in midfield with Connor and Riggers complimenting each other's game superbly.

However, Helsby squandered more chances with the bar rattling a further two times and the score somehow remaining 2-0 at half time.

I couldnt help but wonder whether these missed chances could come back to haunt us.

Then, 10 minutes into the second half, Adson cut inside from the left and scored a pearler into the top bin- what a goal and its 3-0 to Helsby FC.

The noise and roar from the newly opened "Balcony Bar" was something to cherish- such an amazing sound.

Rainford really hadn't showed any threat in this game and you could visibly see their heads go down. Helsby went up another gear and it was attack after attack- stunning football, simply stunning.

Adson got his fourth goal and Jamie Hayes another. Lee T curled a lovely free kick into the postage stamp and it was 7-0 to Helsby - a magnificent day for Helsby Football Club and a magnificent seven performance.

Every single player was on their A game today - the defence were immense as ever - organised and strong in the tackle. Midfield controlled the game and the attack was savage at times.

So, two games left. Two wins and the title is Helsby's. The first game is away at Poulton Victoria Reserves on Wednesday night then comes the final home game on Monday 31 against West Kirby Reserve.

If ever the team and club need your support this is the time- so come and support your local team - we are Helsby and thats the way we like it!!
