Cheshire Constabulary are urging people to stay home this New Year's Eve

Cheshire Police are urging local residents to stay at home for New Year's Eve, following the county's move into Tier 4 restrictions, which came into effect at 00:01 this morning.

"To stop the spread and save lives it's vital that residents stay at home and don't mix with other households, except where there are exemptions such as childcare and 'bubbles'," Cheshire Police said.

Cheshire West and Chester is now in Tier 4

Following yesterday's government announcement, the whole of Cheshire is now under Tier 4 restrictions, meaning that the advice is now to 'stay at home'.

Reacting to this development, Cllr Louise Gittins, Leader of Cheshire West and Chester Council, said, "This latest news is clearly disappointing, although we have a duty to act in the best interests of our residents.
