Today, there have been reports across the country of panic-buying shoppers clearing shelves in supermarkets, with Sainsbury's warning that it could run out of some food items by Christmas.

So, we've compiled a list of independent businesses and producers, selling local food produce, which you can visit if you'd rather shop small this Christmas and beyond.

In Frodsham itself, we have the likes of Alan Pickup, Hales, Cowards, Whitmore and White, the Devonshire Bakery and Bene Gelateria.

However, there are also a range of shops a little further afield which concentrate on local produce, supporting other Cheshire farms and businesses.

Norley Stores

School Bank, Norley, WA6 8NN

Sourcing bread, meat and pies from the surrounding area, Norley Stores is all about bringing fresh local produce to its customers.

Christmas opening times:

The shop is currently open Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday 9am - 5pm and Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday 9am - 1pm

On Christmas Eve Norley Stores will be open from 9am until 2pm.

Ashfields Posh Peckers, Manley

Tarvin Road, Manley, WA6 9EW

Selling fresh fruit and veg for Christmas, as well as their usual free range hen and duck eggs, jams, chutneys and Christmas plants, Posh Peckers is a Covid-safe outdoor stall full of local produce.

You can drop by from 9:00am until dark and we will update this article when they close for Christmas.

Ashton Hayes and Mouldsworth Village Shop

3, Kelsall Rd, Ashton, CH3 8BJ

Ashton Hayes' shop is a community shop that stocks all the essentials, from fresh fruit and veg to local bakers' bread to Coward's Pies. You can even buy homemade cakes and soups!

Forresters Shop, Kingsley

Established in 1972, this family-owned business offer a wide range of British produce, from chicken, burgers, sausages to cheese, ice cream, biscuits and preserves.

Christmas opening times:

On Christmas Eve, Forresters is open from 8:30am until 1pm. It will then be closed until Monday 28th December and again on New Year's Eve.

Manor Farm Butchery, Manley

Manley Lane, Frodsham, WA6 9HL

Along with jams, chutneys and some fresh vegetables, Manor Farm Butchery has a wide range of locally sourced meats and home reared beef.

Smithy House, Halebank Road, WA8 8NH

Halebank Farm Shop sells local vegetables, as well as Snugbury's ice cream, locally produced jams and chutneys and fresh bread.
