Weaver Vale Housing Trust reject possibility of Green Gates Park land swap

Weaver Vale Housing Trust have informed Frodsham Town Council that they will not enter into a land swap between Green Gates Park and Meadow Court.

It had been thought that the Housing Trust might build 22 homes on Green Gates, which was reopened during the coronavirus lockdown, while a small community hub and park would be created on the Meadow Court site.

Green Gates Community Project, who wish to retain the park space on the Ship Street site, were concerned that this new housing development would lead to increased car emissions around the Fluin Lane junction area, where air pollution regularly reaches dangerous levels.

The Meadow Court site is also around half the size of the one acre Green Gates plot, which is protected by a covenant which requires the land to be used to the purposes of children's play.

In a 2018 survey, 92% of Waterside ward residents agreed that housing should not be built on Green Gates Park, with 95% saying it should be used as a public space to benefit the community.

It is not known what will now happen to Green Gates Park, but a representative of Weaver Vale Housing Trust said: "I wish the Town Council every success in continuing the dialogue with Green Gates regarding the future use of the site/ the search for a community facility."

The Town Council have been approached for comment.
