Weaver Vale constituency could be set to disappear in changes proposed by the Boundary Commission for England (BCE).

The constituency, which currently covers Frodsham, Helsby, Northwich and part of Runcorn, would be effectively split into two.

A new constituency called 'Northwich' would include Crowton, Norley and Cuddington, as well as much of Winsford, while Frodsham and Helsby would sit in 'Runcorn and Helsby'.

Runcorn and Helsby would stretch beyond Weaver Vale's current boundaries to the west, so taking in Ince, Elton, Stoak and Mickle Trafford.

In the south, it would reach all the way down to Guilden Sutton, ending just before the Hoole area of Chester.

In this way, it would fully contain Frodsham's four local Cheshire West and Chester Council wards: Frodsham, Helsby, Gowy Rural and Sandstone.

In the north, Runcorn and Helsby would encompass all of the wards of the Borough of Halton which are south of the River Mersey , including Daresbury and Preston on the Hill.

Weaver Vale MP Mike Amesbury said: "These are the initial proposals by the independent Boundary Commission for England. There will now be an opportunity for key stakeholders and residents to have their say via a consultation.

"This will include regional public-facing meetings early next year organised by the commission.

"The Boundary Commission's stated aim is to make Parliament fairer by ensuring each MP represents a roughly similar number of voters.

"The proposals will be finalised in 2023 and are due to be made into law in the latter part of that year."

Under the proposals, Scotland and Wales will see the number of MPs cut, while England gains 10 seats overall.

The number of constituencies in the North West will decrease from 75 to 73 so that they contain between 69,724 and 77,062 Parliamentary electors each.

The proposals are currently under public consultation until August 2. Maps and details on how to submit a response are available here.
