The people of Frodsham have been sending an array of thoughtful cards and presents to Newton Hall Care Home, to help 99-year-old resident, Freda Vaughn, celebrate her milestone birthday on 16th November.

Earlier this month, Newton Hall's Activities Coordinator, Jane Holmes, took to social media to invite local people to send Freda a card to congratulate her on 'such a monumental birthday'.

Since then, the home has received an 'overwhelming' amount of cards, as well as offers of flowers, balloons, cupcakes, and even a new hairdo for Freda!

"It's really lifted spirits here at Newton Hall," Jane says.

Freda was born in Frodsham on 16th November 1920, when the Queen's grandfather, George V, was still on the throne.

Having grown up here, she got a job in the mailroom at BICC, working her way up through the department. She later moved to Upton, where she lived for a number of years with her husband.

The staff at Newton Hall had been planning a big party for Freda's birthday, but, for obvious reasons, they have had to adapt their ideas, and will now be organising a quieter celebration.

Jane tells me that Freda is looking forward to her birthday, but doesn't want too much fuss being made of her!

If you'd like to wish Freda a happy 100th birthday, please send a card to Newton Hall Care Home, Kingsley Road, WA6 6YD.
