Mike Amesbury has welcomed news of a new testing facility in Frodsham.
Today (Tuesday 3rd November) Cheshire West and Chester Council is to begin building a new 'walk through' testing site on the car park to the rear of the Lifestyle centre, which is due to open within a few days.
These sites are aimed at residents who don't have access to a car and use a 'self-swab' model.
Those attending for a test will be required to self-swab the back of their own throats and noses, with guidance and instruction provided by testing centre staff.
The Frodsham site will be in place for a minimum of three months, the council has said.
Mike said: "Health experts agree that if we're to get away from this cycle of lockdowns, we must have a robust test, track and trace system.
"The government has failed with its national measures and I've said repeatedly that testing should be placed in the hands of those that are best placed to do it - our local authorities.
"This is therefore a welcome boost which will hopefully prove a valuable tool in protecting our town from this virus, while ensuring local businesses can once again begin to reopen as soon as it's safe to do so."
The testing facility will be open from 8am - 8pm, seven days a week. Only residents with symptoms can book a test by visiting the government website or by calling 119.
