Local development network Action with Communities in Rural England (ACRE), has recently launched a 'Village Halls Domesday Book', aimed at celebrating the work of rural organisations across the country.
Nearly 400 village halls have signed up so far, including information about their charity's history, their response to the pandemic, and their hopes for the future in this compelling online record.
Village halls and community centres in Acton Bridge, Delamere, Mickle Trafford and Cuddington have already become part of the Domesday Book, and it would be nice to see places like Kingsley, Manley, Helsby and Alvanley joining them!
Lord Gardiner of Kimble, Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Rural Affairs, praised the record, saying: "Village halls have been a crucial part of rural life for the past century. They provide a space for activities and events that bring people together, create a sense of community, reduce loneliness and support local businesses.
"At a time when many village halls are closed because of coronavirus, it is especially important to recognise and celebrate the work they do".
You can read through the entries, and add your own village hall, by visiting the Domesday Book website.
