Local racing driver, Luke Browning, secured the F4 British Championship yesterday (15th November) in a wet season finale at Brands Hatch.
Luke, who is from Kingsley, began the weekend neck and neck on points with title rival Zak O'Sullivan, and had moved into the lead by the time the final race came around on Sunday.
A spin on the final corner left Luke at the back of the field, but heavy rain then saw the race red-flagged, with half points awarded.
With just four points in it, this dramatic turn of events secured the title for Luke.
In his champion's interview, Luke said: "It's an absolutely amazing feeling to be British F4 champion and I can't thank my team, my parents and everyone at home enough.
"It's just been truly fabulous. I've loved every moment of the Championship and am looking forward to where I go next.
"I thought we'd been given the biggest dose of bad luck possible in race three as we came out of the final corner on lap one and there was oil down on the track.
"All three of us at the front lost it, but I lost it the worst and went round. At that point, I thought it was all over and it felt like the bottom had dropped out of my world.
"I just had to push hard and then the rain arrived and for once, luck was on my side as I've had my fair share of bad luck in recent seasons!
"Covid's had its challenges, with only a certain amount of people allowed in the paddock. I mean, I couldn't have both my parents down today, I could only have one, so it's certainly been tough.
"But through this tough time we've strived to bring entertainment to the people at home when they need it the most."
