Kingsley Players have appeared on today's episode of Amateur Hour: the Amdram Podcast.
In this show, hosts David Jeffery and Paul Arends travel round the country, interviewing groups from every corner of the amdram community. "It explores the weird and wonderful world of amateur dramatics - the highs and lows, and everything in between."
The Chair of the Kingsley Players, Jo Oultram, and the Director of the Youth Theatre, Jake Powell, were asked about the history of the society, as well as the triumphs and challenges of staging performances, and the effect of Covid-19 on their shows.
For Jo and Jake, the Kingsley Players is all about a sense of "fun, community and self-belief."
"It's just about having a laugh really," said Jake, "We're such a small village that it brings everyone together."
"The best thing I ever did was walk into a Kingsley Players audition back in 2013," said Jo. "I poked my nose through the door thinking: "I don't know who any of these people are; I hope they're friendly." And it's occupied most of my time ever since!"
With a raft of award-winning productions under their belt, including Pride and Prejudice, The Wizard of Oz, Calendar Girls and Alan Bennett's Talking Heads, the Players are now itching to get going on new shows.
When Covid restrictions allow, Jo would love to perform Fiddler on the Roof and Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, while Jake would like to see his younger actors tackle A Midsummer Night's Dream.
