This week, Frodsham's businesses and residents have been doing their bit to provide food for children who might otherwise be going hungry this half-term.

2020 has been an especially difficult year for some, as was reflected by Cheshire West and Chester Council's declaration of a poverty emergency in the borough last week.

As you know, one way to offer help to those in need is to give to food banks, which are becoming an increasingly vital resource in communities around the country.

Between 1st April 2019 and 31st March 2020, Trussell Trust food banks, including the nearest centre in Runcorn, distributed a record 1.9 million emergency food parcels to people in crisis, with more than 700,000 of these going to children.

In the last five years, the number of people using food banks across the network has risen by 74%.

Frodsham residents can donate food items to Runcorn and District Food Bank at the following drop off points:

Sainsbury's, Frodsham

Morrisons, Frodsham

Tesco, Helsby

If you have a large amount of food to deliver, the Food Bank volunteers would appreciate if if you could bring it to their Runcorn warehouse on either Tuesday 6.30 – 8pm or Wednesday 1 – 3pm.

More details here.

According to its website, the Food Bank is currently seeking donations of:

Biscuits

Tinned fruit

and long-life fruit juice

Food items must be non-perishable and in-date. Donations of basic toiletries such as soap, shampoo, toothpaste and feminine hygiene products are also welcomed by the Food Bank.

Alternatively, if you would prefer to offer financial support, you can make a one-off or regular donation to help fund the running of Runcorn and District Food Bank.
