A nuclear inspector from Helsby has been awarded a Commander of the Order of the British Empire in the New Year's Honours List 2021.

Dr Mina Golshan, who is Deputy Chief Nuclear Inspector and Director of the Office for Nuclear Regulation's Sellafield Decommissioning, Fuel and Waste Division, was recognised for 'services to nuclear regulation'.

In a statement, Dr Golshan said: "I am very grateful to have been awarded this honour. It reflects the work of many talented and dedicated professionals that I am lucky to work with.

"It also shows the significance of ONR's role in securing safe nuclear operations for the protection and benefit of the society."

Dr Golshan obtained her PhD in Experimental Physics from the University of London, and has since accrued 20 years' experience in nuclear and high-hazard industries.

Through her work with the Office for Nuclear Regulation, Dr Golshan also advises the government on waste management policy.
