While being interviewed on today's edition of North West Today about the release of his new album, Gary Barlow reminisced briefly about his childhood in Frodsham.

"Gary Barlow rose to fame in Take That, but now he has a new solo album out. And he says the style of music has been inspired by the tunes he listened to as a child growing up in Cheshire," said the programme's host, Annabel Tiffin.

The album, Music Played by Humans, harks back to the songs Barlow would hear played in his childhood home in Frodsham.

"[This sort of music] was just on in the house. We had a record player and there was a lot of Frank Sinatra, a lot of Nat King Cole," Barlow said. "It was only a few weeks ago that I thought: "Actually, I remember this from Ashton Drive in Frodsham!""

By the age of 14, Barlow was performing five nights a week at Halton Royal British Legion, after securing his first job at Connah's Quay Labour Club, aged 11. It was this early ambition which paved the way for his hugely successful career.
