The construction company responsible for the new Springfield Avenue development in Helsby has funded a 'Raising Aspirations' programme for the children of Weaver Vale Primary School.

M&Y Maintenance and Construction have partnered with Positive Footprints, a company that works in schools to support children's personal development, to deliver the 12-month scheme.

Designed to give children the skills they need to lead positive lives, Raising Aspirations aims to build resilience, increase confidence and lesson engagement, develop self-belief, teach employability skills and open up the world of work.

The programme will be received by Frodsham Weaver Vale's 10 and 11-year-old pupils.

Mr Peter Van Geffen, Headteacher at Frodsham Weaver Vale said: "In times such that we are going through, it is even more important to give children the tools to recognise and understand their dreams.

"We are looking forward to working with Positive Footprints in 'raising the future aspirations' of the children in Frodsham Weaver Vale Primary School."

This month, M&Y Maintenance and Construction began work on 11 new Weaver Vale Housing Trust homes, including two and three-bedroom properties for affordable rent, on an unoccupied site on Springfield Avenue.

For every contract they deliver, M&Y Maintenance and Construction pledge to deliver 'social value initiatives' that will generate a long-lasting positive impact to the community concerned.

Gill Kelly, Managing Director at M&Y Maintenance and Construction said: "This is a great initiative for M&Y to fund as it allows us to directly support children within the local area develop the skills and mindset needed to achieve their dreams and aspirations.

"Positive Footprints are a fantastic organisation, inspiring children to believe in themselves across the North West via their school programmes.

"As a woman in construction, I am also keen to tackle stereotypes that children form at this age.

"It is important to inspire more young girls to consider a career in constructions so we can increase diversity in the future."
