Town and borough councillor for Frodsham, Cllr Andrew Dawson, has bid farewell to the town ahead of his move to work for the Falkland Islands Government.
Cllr Dawson's resignation from Cheshire West and Chester council will take effect at the close of tonight's (Thursday 22nd October) full Council meeting, after which he will assume his new post as the Falkland Islands' Head of Legal Services.
In the letter, he wrote: "It has been an immense honour and privilege to represent the wonderful people and community of Frodsham for more than 13 years.
"Frodsham became my adopted home nearly 30 years ago when I had the fortune to marry-in.
"For [my wife] Dianne and I, it has been a wonderful place to bring up our three children. I've often joked with my mother-in-law that I only became respectable locally because I married her elder daughter!
"When I first stood for election in 2007 I didn't expect to win. I remember being profoundly shocked as I saw those votes being counted and the realisation dawned that my life was going to change significantly," he wrote.
In the years following his election, Cllr Dawson served as the Town Mayor (from 2011-12), and represented the UK on the Council of Europe's Congress of Regional and Local Authorities.
"Immense honour"
"There are so many people I need to thank in addition to the good people of Frodsham: my councillor colleagues, the officers who have served and continue to serve our community and, of course, my long suffering wife and family.
Cllr Dawson also thanked the late Hon Aldermen and former councillors Marie Birkenhead and Ralph Oultram, as well as his fellow ward councillor, Lynn Riley.
"I will miss many things about Frodsham when I'm away - but I will particularly miss our frank and open discussions.
"[Lynn] and I have always spoken the same language - often to the dismay of our respective husband and wife - as we'd often make repeated use of our favourite 'F' words.... which you all know include 'Fabulous' and 'Frodsham,'" he wrote.
"I hope everyone stays safe and healthy and that Fabulous Frodsham prospers," he concluded.
"Farewell then, for a spell at least. I do intend to return."
