Last night (Friday 18th December), the Frodsham Players released the first episode of their reading of 'The Yellow Wallpaper' by Charlotte Perkins Gilman.

In this thought-provoking story, a young wife is shut in a bedroom by her husband, to help cure her 'hysterical' episodes.

As she lies there, the room's yellow wallpaper begins playing tricks, its 'sprawling, flamboyant pattern' haunting her with its strange, shifting shapes.

'There are things in that paper that nobody knows but me, or ever will.

'It is like a woman stooping down and creeping about behind that pattern,' says the unnamed protagonist.

Just as the wallpaper continues to present new images, this story is constantly suggesting new meanings, making it a rich and challenging listening experience.

Frodsham Players' reading will be spread over six nights, taking us right up to Christmas, and the end of their fantastic Ghost Stories project.
