Frodsham Library has partnered with Artistic Director Emily O'Shea on an exciting new Arts Council England funded project called 'Rough and Tumble'.

Emily is a choreographer, dance maker and community artist, trained at The Hammond, who tells everyday stories through movement and performance.

The aim of the project is to gather stories and experiences of playground games and outdoor play across all ages within the community, through conversations, workshops and activities via the library.

The research gathered will then be developed into an outdoor dance performance which will tour locally and nationally at community festivals and events later on in the year.

It is hoped that the Rough and Tumble production will take place near Frodsham Library so that local families can come and see how valuable their contributions and experiences have been and what's been created as a result.

Although the project doesn't begin until the end of June, Frodsham Library has already started to engage with customers about the project.

Emily has created a questionnaire for older customers to fill in with their reminiscences of childhood games, and children have been issued with activity sheets via their Holiday Activities and Food (HAF) boxes to encourage them to talk to older relatives about what games they played as a child.

The questionnaire and activity sheets are available for anyone to take when visiting the library or you can fill in the questionnaire online.

You can keep up to date with news about the project on the Cheshire West and Chester Libraries Facebook and Twitter pages.

If you would like to find out more about getting involved, please email Locality Librarian, Helen Neal, at [email protected] to be put in touch with Emily.

Visiting Frodsham Library

Frodsham Library has reopened its doors for browsing, computer access, scanning and photocopying on temporary reduced hours from Monday to Saturday.

Opening times are:

Monday and Thursday: 2pm - 6pm

Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday: 10am - 1pm

Please bear in mind that to keep everyone safe there are still some services that are unavailable at the moment, including reference stock, newspapers, local studies materials, seating and Customer Services.

The library is still as safe as possible with hand sanitiser, one way systems and floor markings. It is also still adhering to Test and Trace guidelines and limiting the number of people allowed in at any one time.

Customers are required to wear a face covering whilst visiting the library and all children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult.

In other good news, Cheshire West libraries are now fine-free for children aged 0 to 12 years, who will no longer be charged for any overdue items. And, if you didn't already know, the library service has just launched its brilliant new eBook and eAudiobook platform, BorrowBox.

BorrowBox offers a brand new and much wider collection of eBooks and eAudiobooks. There's something for everyone including bestsellers, award winners and new releases for adults, young people and children.

You simply download the BorrowBox app (via the app store or play store), choose Cheshire East and Cheshire West Libraries, and then enter your library card number, PIN and email address.

It is really easy to use and there are some great features, including being able to alter the text size to suit your eyesight, changing the backlight / glare on the screen (depending of time of day) and having the option to convert the text so that it's more suitable for dyslexic readers.

Frodsham Library is looking forward to seeing all its local members and residents very soon!
