Four people were taken to hospital 'as a precaution' after a collision between J12 and J14 of the M56 eastbound yesterday (Wednesday) at around 2:30pm.
Firefighters, paramedics and police all attended the scene of the crash, which, according to Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service, involved two cars.
The people involved were able to self-extricate from their cars before the emergency services moved the vehicles onto the hard shoulder and laid down absorbent matts to soak up fuel that had leaked onto the carriageway.
A man and a woman from one of the vehicles and two others then attended hospital as a precaution.
The accident led to lengthy delays on the motorway, with 8.5 miles of congestion waiting up to an hour and a half to get through at one point in the afternoon.
Traffic times were only reported to have returned to normal by 8pm.
