Shortly after 8.30pm last night (Sunday 4 July), firefighters were called to reports of an incident on the M56 westbound between junctions 11 and 12.

Firefighters from Runcorn, Widnes and Lymm attended the scene and found a fire involving a saloon car which was in lane two.

The crews secured the carriageway, they then used a hose reel jet to extinguish the fire and a thermal imaging camera to monitor the temperature of the vehicle.

The crews were detained at the scene for around 40 minutes.

There were no reports of any injuries.
