Covid update: fewer than three cases in Frodsham and Helsby as borough rate dips into single figures

In the week leading up to 23 May, there were fewer than three Covid-19 cases in Frodsham, Helsby and all of their surrounding villages.

Frodsham's suppressed rates are echoed across every single Cheshire West area, a trend which made for a total of only 16 new cases last week.

The rolling rate for the borough is now 4.7 per 100,000, a 36 per cent reduction on the week before.

However, while our local rates remain low, nationally Covid cases are creeping upwards thanks to the prevalence of the Indian variant, which is now thought to account for up to three quarters of UK cases.

The rate for the country as a whole has therefore risen by 24 per cent in the past week, with the next stage of the government's roadmap out of lockdown having been thrown into question.

And what about vaccinations?

Across the Cheshire NHS Clinical Commissioning Group area, 747,206 people have received at least one dose of the Covid vaccine, with 86 per cent of 40-44-year-olds included in that number.

Over-30s are now being invited to arrange their first appointment, which you can do by visiting the national booking service or by ringing 119.
