POLICE are appealing for information after a car was set on fire near Helsby.

Firefighters were called out to Common Lane in Hapsford at 7.40 yesterday (Sunday) morning where they found a black Ford Galaxy well alight in a field.

The vehicle was unoccupied and the crew used a hose reel jet to extinguish the fire and make the car safe.

A Cheshire Fire and Rescue spokesperson said: "The fire is believed to have been started deliberately."

Anyone with any information about the fire should call Cheshire Police on 101, quoting IML 907236, or give details here.
