Today (Monday) marks step two of the national lockdown relaxation, and this afternoon, local residents were celebrating at Beer Heroes' Helsby taproom.

Although the bottleshop has been running a popular delivery service through lockdown, staff and customers alike were thrilled to be back in the taproom.

"It feels great to be open again," said manager, Alice. "The whole industry has been hit so hard, but we're lucky that we have a good local support system who have made the most of our delivery service through lockdown.

"And as soon as we announced that we would open today the bookings came flooding in! A lot of our regulars are here with us today and it's really nice to see everyone."

Beer Heroes had only been open for a few minutes when we popped in, but the outdoor tables were already buzzing with the cheery chatter of customers enjoying the April sunshine… and that first post-lockdown pint!

"We are regulars here and before lockdown we would come twice a week," said one couple, who were sitting outside with their lovely dogs.

"We love Beer Heroes because the staff are really friendly, there's a good atmosphere and it offers something a bit different with its real ale.

"Even our dogs love it here: when we came today they knew exactly where we were going!

"Something like this is great for the community and it's nice to see local residents supporting it.

"We're made up to be back and we're so glad it's reopened when so many businesses have gone to the wall because of Covid."

Beer Heroes will be open until 9pm tonight before returning on Friday (4pm until 9pm), Saturday (1pm until 9pm) and Sunday (1pm until 8pm). Many tables are already booked but there are some set aside for walk-ins.

Customers wishing to sit outside must complete a Track and Trace form.
