Helsby Police are looking into a vandalism incident which occurred in Helsby Parish Play Area over the weekend.

On Friday night, it is thought that a group of youths shattered the glass bus stop outside the new Indian restaurant, Junoon, before damaging the benches and smashing bottles in the children's play area.

The park was then closed on Saturday morning to allow Helsby Parish Council to clear up the broken bottles. Thanks to these community efforts, children and families were soon able to return to the play area, although its picnic benches are now unusable.

Speaking at a Helsby Parish Council last night (Monday), Helsby's PCSO Lauren Davies told councillors that officers are investigating several leads that might reveal more about the incident.

"We'll do everything we can," she said, adding, however, that CCTV footage from around the village that night was not clear enough to identify any individuals potentially involved with the incident.

"We're hoping that there is someone somewhere who will have a video of what went on.

"We are doing a lot of work behind the scenes with this. If anyone gets any information please send it on."

If you have any information about the incident, please call 101.
