Frodsham tops Cheshire West average for Covid-19 vaccine uptake

Frodsham residents have been vaccinated in greater numbers than their neighbours elsewhere in Cheshire West.

In every over-50 age group, a higher proportion of Frodsham people have been inoculated against the virus than the overall percentage for the Cheshire West and Chester borough.

For example, in Frodsham, 98 per cent of over-80s have been vaccinated, compared to a Council area average of 97 per cent.

Meanwhile, 90 per cent of Frodsham 50 to 59-year-olds have had at least one dose, while in Cheshire West as a whole, the figure stands at 88 per cent.

96 per cent of Frodsham's clinically extremely vulnerable population have also been vaccinated, along with 87 per cent of those who fall into the 'at risk' category.

The only vaccine cohort where Frodsham falls slightly behind the borough-wide average is among care workers, 80 per cent of whom have been inoculated. This compares to a Cheshire West total of 81 per cent.

Cheshire NHS Clinical Commissioning Group, the body in charge of the vaccine rollout, have made clear that the offer of a vaccination is 'evergreen', meaning that anyone belonging to earlier priority cohorts can still come forward for their first appointment.

Therefore, any Frodsham carers who did not initially take up their vaccination invitation can do so now if they wish to.

Cheshire CCG have also announced the launch of a 'vaccine bus' and 'pop-up clinics', which will begin touring the county this month.

These services will be targeting communities with lower vaccine uptake, but will also reportedly be visiting Frodsham in the coming months.

It is undeniable that Cheshire West's vaccine rollout has been very successful, but people are still being urged to be on their guard against the virus, especially following recent infection spikes in Northwich and Winsford.

Cheshire West and Chester Council says that these new cases are likely to be the Delta (Indian) variant, and residents are being encouraged to book a PCR test even if they do not have symptoms.
